CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Mike Hagos and junior Kevin Tschirhart claimed the top two spots in the 1500m at the Taylor Cattle Farms Carolina Classic, hosted by the University of North Carolina, Friday evening in NCAA Regional Qualifying times. Hagos clocked in at 3:47.68, a personal-best, to take the top spot, while Tschirhart was close behind, finishing in his best time of 3:47.77.

Junior Alex Bowman trailed the duo, finishing third in the event with a time of 3:48.97.

In the women’s 800m, two Cavaliers narrowly missed the 2:09.80 regional mark. Sophomore Jen Hovland crossed the line in fourth with a time of 2:10.12 and senior Huma Husain finished in fifth in 2:10.15. Both times are personal-bests for the Cavaliers.

A handful of Virginia’s runners will be competing at the New Captains Classic at Christopher Newport University Saturday throughout the day. Events are a rolling time schedule, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events opening at noon.
