Charlottesville, VA Virginia freshman women’s golfer Joy Kim (Duluth, Ga.) has been named to the National Golf Coaches Association’s All-East Region team. As a first-year player at UVa, Kim appeared in eight of 11 tournaments and finished third on the team with a 75.76 stroke average. She had three top-10 finishes at tournaments.

Kim was instrumental in UVa’s return to the NCAA Championships where the Cavaliers finished 12th overall. She was sixth at the ACC Championships, shooting a career-low score of 3-over 219. She bettered that at the NCAA East Regional, finishing at 2-over 218 to place seventh overall. During the final round, she had five birdies during her back nine to help the Cavaliers to a fifth-place finish. Her 68 during the regional was her best single-round of the year and the lowest round by any UVa player this season. She was Virginia’s top finisher at the East Regional and earlier in the season at LSU’s Cleveland Classic.
