CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Yemi Ayeni opened competition for the Cavaliers at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday afternoon. The All-American finished second in the discus with a throw of 55.80m to advance to the final round on Friday at 3:15 p.m. CST.

This marks the second-straight season that Ayeni has advanced to the qualifying round of the discus at the national championships. Last season, he earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish and a throw of 56.97m.

Brigham Young’s Leif Arrhenius is the favorite heading into Friday’s competition. The sophomore threw 57.91m this afternoon.

Billie-Jo Grant is currently competing in the qualifying round of the discus at the championships, while Stephanie Garcia will race in the semifinals of the 3000m steeplechase at 7:20 p.m. CST, tonight. Be sure to check back later for updated results.
