DALLAS, Texas Andy Platt, director of event management in the Virginia athletics department, has received the Rookie of the Year Award from the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA). Platt received the award this week at the association’s convention in Dallas.

CABMA is an organization devoted to the establishment, maintenance and implementation of the highest standards of integrity and efficiency in the management and administration of business in the athletics departments and associations of colleges and universities. The Rookie of the Year Award recipient is determined by the association’s executive committee and honors a new member for the individual’s outstanding contributions to the organization.

Platt joined the Virginia athletics department staff in late January of 2008 after serving as the assistant athletics director for business operations at the University of Richmond since May of 2006. He is responsible for directing all aspects of event management for intercollegiate athletics events and external events, providing oversight of the athletics camps program and assisting with facility management at Virginia. His responsibilities also include working with various entities to produce events, overseeing event services, budget monitoring, and working with sports programs to meet operational needs.

At Richmond, Platt served as the chief business affairs officer for the athletics department. He was also responsible for the oversight of facility management and game operations, and the management of all athletics camps and clinics.

Prior to joining the athletics department staff at Richmond, he worked in the athletics department at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla., for five years. He was the director of internal operations and business manager for three years, the sports information director for one year and a graduate assistant in athletics development for one year.

Platt earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Nova Southeastern University in 2001 and his master’s degree in business administration from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2004. He lettered four years in basketball at Nova Southeastern and was the team’s captain, Most Valuable Player and a first-team all-conference selection in 2001.
