Charlottesville, VA – Conrad Von Borsig (Swarthmore, Pa.), a rising senior on the Virginia men’s golf team, and Cavalier assistant coach Jay Fisher (Suffolk, Va.) have qualified for the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship. On Monday Von Borsig tied for third at the qualifier held at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del. He had rounds of 72 and 65 for a 36-hole total of 137.

Fisher qualified Tuesday at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. He shot 72 and 71 and won a three-way playoff for the second qualifying spot by posting a birdie on the first extra hole.

UVa sophomore Amory Davis shot 141 at the same qualifier as Von Borsig to be an alternate for the tournament.

The 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship will take place Aug. 18-24 on Pinehurst No 2 and No. 4. The field of 312 competitors will participate in 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. The field will be cut to the low 64 players for match play after Tuesday’s round. Match play begins Wednesday and continues until the 36-hole final on Sunday.
