Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia athletics department has created a limited edition football jersey and helmet that will be available for sale to fans in honor of Retro Day at Scott Stadium on Sept. 6 when the Cavaliers host Richmond. Retro Day celebrates a 10-year period of Virginia football from 1984-1993. During that time frame, UVa won 72 games and the school’s first ACC football championship, earned a number-one national ranking, and participated in six bowl games. Virginia’s first ACC football championship team, the 1989 squad, will be recognized at halftime on Sept. 6.

Commemorative helmets and jerseys will be sold in the Cavalier Team Shop online at VirginiaSports.com beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31. The jerseys sell for $100 and the helmets for $150. A package price of $200 will be offered if the jersey and helmet are purchased together.

Several jersey numbers and corresponding helmets with the number on the back formerly worn by Virginia football greats will be available for purchase through an auction online at VirginiaSports.com beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31. The jersey numbers included in the auction are 3, 6, 7, 12, 19, 21, 73, 85, 87, 89, and 91. The auction schedule is listed below.
