CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team, coming off a sweep of the JMU Days Inn Invitational last weekend, is looking to extend its winning streak at the Denver Pioneer Invitational this weekend. The Cavaliers will travel to Colorado for the first time in program history, to face Denver, Tennessee and Iowa this Friday and Saturday.

Virginia (3-0) will open play against Denver (2-1) at 9:30 p.m. ET Friday evening. The match will mark the first time the two squads have ever played in volleyball.

On Saturday, the Cavaliers will face Tennessee (3-0) at 12:30 p.m. ET, before concluding the tournament with a match against Iowa (1-2) at 7 p.m. ET. Virginia and Iowa have never met on the court, while Tennessee owns a 3-2 advantage over the Cavaliers in the all-time series.

This past weekend, tournament MVP Lauren Dickson (Austin, Texas) and all-tournament team honorees Marlow Bruneau (Lakeville, Minn.) and Shannon Davis (Austin, Texas) led the Cavaliers to 3-0 victories over Murray State and New Hampshire, and a 3-1 win over James Madison for the tournament title. Virginia had never faced Murray State or New Hampshire prior to the tournament.

After the weekend matches, Virginia will return home to host the Marriott Jefferson Cup. Appalachian State, Binghamton and Virginia Commonwealth will each travel to Charlottesville for the tournament.
