Owings Mills, MD The 14th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team shot 12-over 300 during Monday’s final round of the Duramed Fall Preview to finish third in the 15-team field. Second-ranked Arizona State placed three individuals among the top-10 finishers to take the team title with an 8-over score of 872 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. The Cavaliers finished the fall season’s most prestigious tournament at 19-over 880, just three shots behind fourth-ranked USC, the defending NCAA Champions. Georgia, ranked No. 9, was one shot behind the Cavaliers.

The field for the Fall Preview included 14 teams ranked in Golfweek’s preseason top-25, including seven teams in the top-10.

Virginia was led by senior Jennie Arseneault who was seventh overall at 1-over 217. That is her best tournament score in her career. Her previous best outing was a 2-over 218 performance she posted at the 2006 Fall Preview. Arseneault began the day in first place, but dropped back in the field by shooting 7-over 79. It was the sixth top-10 performance during her career.

Three Cavaliers tied for 21st place at 7-over 223. That group included Joy Kim, Whitney Neuhauser and Calle Nielson. Kim shot 73 Monday, Nelson posted a 75 and Neuhauser finished with a 76. Kristen Simpson was 44th overall at 233. She shot 76 during the final round.

Neuhauser’s 54-hole score was the lowest of her career, bettering the 224 she turned in last February at Miami’s Qdoba Invitational. Her opening round 72 matched her best single-round effort as a collegiate.

Oklahoma State freshman Caroline Hedwall captured medalist honors, firing a 4-under 212 to top the field of 75 golfers. Hedwall entered the final round in fourth place, but carded a 3-under 69 on Monday.
