Cavaliers Post Ranked Singles Wins on Day Two of Bulldog Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. The Virginia women’s tennis team had a strong second day of the 2008 Bulldog Invitational, as play continued at the Dan Magill Tennis Center. The Cavaliers posted a 9-3 singles record on the day, headlined by wins by Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) over top 100 ranked opponents.
“We are really impressed by not just the level of play, but all of the attention to details before , during and after their matches that we have seen,” said head coach Mark Guilbeau. “We are all truly working together and it is a very positive experience. Today was a sign of a lot of good things to come and we are excited for another good day tomorrow.”
In the first round of singles of the day, the Cavaliers were 3-3 as they were playing opponents from Ole Miss and Indiana. Stevens and first-years Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) recorded straight set wins over opponents from Ole Miss.
The Cavaliers concluded the day by sweeping all six singles matches of their second rotation of the day, playing against TCU and Wake Forest. Stevens cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 47 ranked Nina Munch-Soegaard of TCU and Rales topped No. 95 ranked Anna Sydorska of TCU 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Hardenbergh also defeated an opponent from TCU for her second win of the day, while Fraser, Claire Bartlett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) all posted wins over opponents from Wake Forest.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with doubles play a 9 a.m. and singles play at 10:30 a.m.
