Charleston, SC Led by junior Whitney Neuhauser’s record scoring performance, the 14th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team finished fourth at the 22-team Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Neuhauser (Barboursville), shot 4-under 68 during Tuesday’s final round to complete the 54-hole tournament at 8-under 208. She also posted a 68 Sunday and shot even par 72 Monday. Her tournament total bettered the UVa 54-hole scoring record of 210 set by Leah Wigger at the 2005 NCAA East Regional Championships.

Thanks to her pair of career-low single round scores of 68, Neuhauser finished second overall, two shots behind Caroline Westrup of Florida State. Westrup carded a 6-under 66 during the final round to grab medalist honors at 10-under 206.

Prior to the Cougar Classic, Neuhauser’s best tournament score was 223 she shot at last weekend’s Fall Preview. Entering this event, her low single-round score was even-par 72. The tournament was her highest finish as a Cavalier and marked the third top-10 outing of her career.

Virginia shot 6-over 294 during the final round to finish with a three-day total of 874. The Cavaliers were just two shots from tying their all-time low tournament score.

During the final round, Jennie Arseneault (Grinnell, Iowa) shot 76 to finish 32nd overall at 222. Lene Krog (Lier, Norway) also shot 76 Tuesday to tie with Arseneault on the leaderboard. One stroke back was Calle Nielson (Nashville, Tenn.) at 223, including a 74 during the final round. She was 37th. Joy Kim (Duluth, Ga.) shot 76 to finish 45th at 226.

Georgia, ranked ninth, won the tournament at 858 followed by No. 10 Alabama (863) and No. 20 North Carolina (872).
