Virginia at Duke Postgame Notes
Sept. 27, 2008

Rodney McLeod played on the opening kickoff to become the fourth true freshman to play for Virginia this year. He is joined by P Jimmy Howell, OL Austin Pasztor and LB Cam Johnson. McLeod also played several plays from scrimmage and finished with 3 tackles.

Ras-I Dowling made his first start of the season at cornerback in place of Mike Parker and intercepted a pass on the first play from scrimmage. His INT ended Duke QB Thaddeus Lewis’ streak of 206 passes without an interception.

Dowling is the first Cavalier to intercept two passes in a game since Marcus Hamilton picked off two passes against Duke here two years ago.

Rashawn Jackson’s 22-yard run in the first quarter is the longest by a Cavalier this season and the longest of his career.

LB Clint Sintim had the third multi-sack game of his career. He also tied his career high with three sacks; he also had three sacks vs. Virginia Tech last season.

Jimmy Howell’s first punt of the first quarter traveled 54 yards and is the longest punt of his career.

TE John Phillips tied his career high with five receptions. He also had five catches vs. USC in the season opener.

QB Marc Verica made his second career start. He completed 19 of 42 passes for 194 yards, all career-high figures.

Duke’s win ended an 8-game UVa series winning streak. It is Duke’s first win in Durham since 1994. This is only the third time in the last 11 years Virginia has lost its ACC opener.
