Hello again Cavalier fans, this is Monica Wright checking in with VirginiaSports.com to give you an update on the women’s basketball team as we prepare for the start of our ACC schedule this Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena. Tip-off is 2 p.m. against Wake Forest and I hope to see you all there!

I feel like we didn’t play a great game last night (Monday, Jan. 5) against St. Francis (Pa.) but looking at the overall picture we’re looking forward to ACC play. We’ve done good so far with big games, Marquette, Louisiana Tech, Georgia, stepping up to the plate when the time is needed.

With the ACC schedule as it stands, first Wake Forest and then at North Carolina, I’m just looking forward to playing against some of top teams in the country.

I was definitely excited when we got Lyndra [Littles] and Aisha [Mohammed] back because they both bring so much to the table. They’re leaders on the floor and they’re people that the younger players look up to.

Lyndra is back in the groove of things, she hasn’t missed a beat as you could see during the Georgia game. That’s a plus to have those types of players. When one player isn’t producing the other players can step up.

Aisha did well yesterday and she’s back in her groove. I can already see her getting back to her old self. She doesn’t look like she’s missed a step either.

Jayna [Hartig] did really well yesterday when we had a slow start in the first half. Nobody was really producing like we usually do and Jayna came in during the second half and gave us some energy there. That’s a definite plus on how she played. If she brings that every game we’ll be deadly with that.

Personally, I have just been working on my consistency. That’s something that I try to strive for, being consistent every game.

The crowds this season have been great, any time we can get a good turnout at the game, we play better as a team. The crowd gives us energy and intensity and that’s important. They’re our home crowd. We’re doing it for ourselves but at the same time we’re doing it for them.

Hope to see you at JPJ this Sunday. Go Hoos!
