CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team is ranked No. 41 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday. The Cavaliers had two players in the preseason singles rankings and two teams in the preseason doubles rankings, also released Tuesday.

In the singles rankings, junior Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) is ranked a career-high No. 42. In the fall, she had a 9-5 record and reached the round of 16 of the ITA National Indoor Championships. First-year Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) earned her first career ranking at No. 82. She had an 11-4 record in the fall.

In the doubles rankings, the team of Stevens and Fraser are No. 32, while Stevens and senior Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) are No. 43.

The Cavaliers open the 2009 season with the UVa Winter Invitational Jan. 17-19 at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. They open the dual match season on Jan. 21 when they host Old Dominion.
