CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis program announced the addition of Karoline Steiro to the Cavaliers’ roster this spring.

“We are so happy to have Karoline here at the University of Virginia as a member of our women’s tennis program,” said Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau. “It has already been a great process working with her. Karoline is a very strong player, and more importantly, a great young lady who has immediately shown a maturity, toughness and focus that we are always hoping for within the team. Karoline will have great success at UVa on and off the courts. We are grateful to her parents and all those responsible for her decision and ability to join us. We also appreciate the support of the UVa administration and admissions staff in making this a possibility for Karoline and our program.”

Steiro has been one of the top players in Norway. She has been ranked as high as No. 499 in the WTA rankings and played Fed Cup for Norway. In 2007 she was the Norwegian Tennis Federation’s Female Player of the Year. In juniors, she was ranked No. 1 in Norway at every age level and won numerous singles and doubles titles on the ITF U-18 circuit.

The Cavaliers return to action on February 21 as they host Marshall at 9 a.m. and Richmond at 3 p.m. at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Admission is free.
