CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team placed four Cavaliers on the 2008 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team as announced today by the conference office. Senior Marlow Bruneau, juniors Lauren Dickson and Brittani Rendina and sophomore Sydney Hill have all been honored for their work in the classroom and on the court.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

Bruneau, a nursing major from Lakeville, Minn., finished her career ninth on Virginia’s all-time career assists records with 1,271 helpers. A team captain, Bruneau was named to the JMU Days Inn Invitational and Marriott Jefferson Cup all-tournament teams. She was also a member of the 2007 ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Dickson, a commerce major from Austin, Texas, led the Cavaliers in kills and aces and was second on the team in digs this year. She collected a team-high 12 double-doubles and ranked fifth in the ACC in aces per set. An ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team member, Dickson was selected as the JMU Days Inn Tournament MVP and named the ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 6. Additionally, she is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member.

Hill, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., is undecided on a major. As the team leader in blocks, Hill finished ninth on Virginia’s single-season block assists records with 122. She finished the season ranked fifth in the ACC, averaging 1.09 blocks per set and was selected to the Marriott Jefferson Cup All-Tournament Team.

Rendina is a commerce major from Lisle, Ill. Starting every game at libero, Rendina collected a team-high 459 digs to finish the season ranked ninth in Virginia’s all-time single-season records book. She ranked ninth in the league averaging 4.26 digs per set.
