BALTIMORE, Md. Virginia women’s lacrosse senior All-American Ashley McCulloch has earned Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for the first-time in her career after leading Virginia to a 2-0 start on the season. Since the awards inception in 2000, McCulloch is the 13th Cavalier to earn the national honor and the first since Kate Breslin was rewarded for her NCAA Tournament performance on May 21, 2007.

After setting her career high with four goals in Virginia’s season opening 19-3 win over Virginia Tech on Friday, McCulloch one-upped herself Sunday against Loyola, scoring five more to help lead the Cavaliers to a 19-8 win over the Greyhounds.

McCulloch had eight points in each of the lopsided victories with four and three assists, respectively. The Annandale, Va., native leads the ACC with that eight point average and was named the league’s Player of the Week on Monday, marking her first-ever weekly conference honor.

McCulloch was a second-team All American in 2008 after leading the Cavaliers in both assists and points and finished 15th in the nation with 72 assists last season.

Virginia plays host to in-state rival Richmond tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 25. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. in Klckner Stadium.
