Hello again Cavalier fans, this is Monica Wright checking in with VirginiaSports.com to give you a first-person update on the women’s basketball team as we prepare to wrap up the regular-season and head to the ACC Tournament!

Last night we came away with a very exciting win at Florida State. It was a very good win and something that we needed in terms of gaining momentum heading into the ACC Tournament. FSU had beaten us earlier this year at our place (Jan. 23) so we really went into last night’s game with the mentality that we were not settling for anything less than a win.

[Editor’s note: Wright eclipsed Heather Burge’s 1993 mark of 612 points in a season and now has 615 points this year.]

After the game, my dad (Garry Wright) called and told me that I had set the new single-season scoring record at Virginia. I didn’t know that at the time, and it’s pretty cool but right now I am definitely more worried about our team getting wins and continuing to work hard.

Looking ahead to Georgia Tech, we still have a lot to play for in terms of seeding for the conference tournament and the postseason. With this week’s quick turnaround, playing Boston College Sunday night and then traveling to Florida State, we are first and foremost looking to get some rest. Then, we will start to prepare for Georgia Tech because they are a very good team and we will be playing them in a tough road environment.

We have won three-straight games so we are looking to keep that streak going.

Thanks for reading and go ‘Hoos!
