CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. (May 4, 2009) Hardee’s® announced today it has contributed $4,000 to the University of Virginia (UVA) student scholarship fund based on the number of quarterback sacks accumulated by the Cavaliers during home football games last season.

Under a sports marketing partnership with Virginia Athletics, Hardee’s agreed to donate $250 to the General Scholarship Program for students each time an opposing quarterback was sacked at Scott Stadium during the 2008 season.

“We know this contribution by Hardee’s across Virginia will provide support for deserving students to attend UVa,” said Jerry Allsbrook, chief marketing officer for Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee’s franchise operator in Virginia with more than 180 locations. “Obviously we cheered every time the Cavs made a sack and for good reason.”

Under it’s partnership with the Cavaliers, Hardee’s was an official game sponsor against the UVa/Clemson last Nov. 22 and the Hardee’s logo was featured prominently in Scott Stadium throughout the 2008 season.

“We are very pleased with the results of the Sacks for Scholarships promotion,” said Virginia Athletics Director Craig Littlepage. “Hardee’s has been a great partner for many years and continues to find ways to extend our partnership beyond traditional media, giving back to the University, the local community and our students.”

Boddie-Noell has operated Hardee’s restaurants in Virginia for more than 30 years and in addition to a significant footprint in the state, the company is also the largest Hardee’s franchisee in the U.S. with more than 340 locations.
