CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior All-American Andrew Jesien and sophomore All-American Emil Heineking led the Virginia track and field team at the UNC Elite Meet on Friday by winning their respective events. Jesien turned in the program’s third fastest 1500m time of 3:42.96 to improve his national ranking to 18th, and fourth in the East Region, while Heineking finished his first 5k of the season in 14:30.17.

In the 800m, freshman All-American Lance Roller and sophomore Andrew Lobb finished second and third, respectively, in two of the program’s all-time top times. Roller ran the sixth fastest time in Cavalier history, a 1:48.34 performance, and Lobb crossed the line with the eighth fastest time of 1:49.39.

In addition to Jesien’s individual win in the 1500m, senior Kevin Tschirhart finished fourth in 3:46.21 and junior Steve Finley met the IC4A mark with an eighth place finish in a personal-best 3:47.81.

For the women, junior Jen Hovland met the ECAC qualifying mark for next weekend in the 800m, finishing sixth in 2:11.43 and sophomore Chidi Uche finished third in both hurdles events, crossing the line in the 100m hurdles in 14.13 and in 1:01.75 in the 400m hurdles.

In field events, sophomore Andrew Fahringer finished runner-up in the javelin, throwing 203’ 11”, while junior Arthur Gennari finished second in the high jump, clearing 6’ 6.75”. In the discus, freshman Erin Wykoff finished third, tossing 142’ 0”.

Up next for Virginia is the ECAC/IC4A Championships next weekend in Princeton, N.J.
