CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia baseball team will play at Mississippi in the NCAA Oxford Super Regional beginning Friday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss. Game one will be at 2 p.m. Friday, while the second game will be played at noon Saturday. Both games will be televised by ESPN2. If necessary, a third game in the best-of-three series will be contested at 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.

Winners of the Super Regionals advance to the College World Series (June 13-23/24) in Omaha, Neb.

Super Regional tickets will be available through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The ticket office phone number at 1-800-542-8821 or 434/924-8821. Virginia has an allotment of 600 tickets as the visiting team. Once those tickets sell out, all tickets must be purchased through the Ole Miss ticket office based on availability.

Ole Miss (43-18) earned a berth in the Super Regional by virtue of its 4-1 win over Western Kentucky Monday night in the championship game of the NCAA Oxford Regional. The Rebels’ Drew Pomeranz tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out a school-record 16 batters while on just two days’ rest to propel Ole Miss to the championship.

Virginia (46-12-1) reached its first Super Regional after sweeping three games at the NCAA Irvine Regional over the weekend. The Cavaliers defeated San Diego State and pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg in the opener before defeating No. 1-ranked and No. 6 national seed UC Irvine twice on the Anteaters’ home field to claim the title.

UVa and Ole Miss have met just twice previously, with the teams splitting two games. Ironically, both of those contests were in the 1972 NCAA District III Playoffs in Gastonia, N.C. UVa won the first matchup, 9-3, but Ole Miss rebounded to win the second game, 9-0.
