UVa Women's Golfers Finish No. 4 in Final Poll

Charlottesville, VA The Virginia women’s golf team is ranked No. 4 in the final Golfstat rankings for the 2008-09 season. It is the highest final ranking in the program’s history. Golfstat is the ranking service the NCAA uses in determining participants for its championships. Golfstat ranked UVa’s schedule the 15th most difficult in the nation.

NCAA Champion Arizona State was first in the final Golfstat rankings followed by Pac-10 schools UCLA and USC. Golfstat listed three other ACC schools among the top-20. Duke was ranked eighth, North Carolina was No. 9 and Wake Forest was No. 11.

In the Golfstat Cup individual rankings, UVa junior Whitney Neuhauser was No. 27 in the final standings while sophomore teammate Calle Nielson was No. 28. Senior Jennie Arseneault was No. 55. All three players earned All-ACC honors this season.

The Cavaliers had their highest showing ever at the NCAAs, placing eighth behind Nielson’s sixth-place finish. Both Nielson and Neuhauser received honorable mention All-America honors and head coach Kim Lewellen was named the NGCA East Region coach of the year.

Virginia was ranked No. 6 in the final Golfweek rankings. Nielson was ranked No. 23 in their final standings and Neuhauser was No. 30.
