CHARLOTTESVILLEThe Virginia baseball team has scheduled an open practice at Davenport Field on Tuesday (June 9). The practice is scheduled from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and fans are invited to attend. The Cavaliers are scheduled to leave for the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., on Wednesday (June 10).

WINA Radio’s “Best Seat in the House” with Jay James will be broadcast live beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Davenport Field.

“We appreciate the support of our fans and look forward to seeing them on Tuesday,” head coach Brian O’Connor said. “Their support has been very important to our success.”

Free parking will be available in the University Hall and John Paul Jones Arena lots after 5 p.m. Fans should enter the stadium via the Klckner/Davenport entrance on Copeley Road. A concession stand will be open on the main concourse. Among other items, the $2 Tuesday concession special featuring $2 hot dogs and small sodas, will be available. A Ben and Jerry’s ice cream stand and a merchandise stand will also be open.

Virginia earned its first berth in the College World Series with a 5-1 win over Ole Miss Sunday (June 7) in front of 10,110 spectators at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field in the NCAA Oxford Super Regional. After dropping the first game of the super regional, Virginia rallied to take the final two games and win the series.

The Cavaliers will take on LSU this weekend at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. The brackets for the College World Series will be announced Monday evening (June 8) following the conclusion of the super regionals.

Virginia enters the College World Series with a record of 48-13-1. The 48 wins by the Cavaliers are a new school record for victories in a season. The previous UVa record for baseball victories in a season was 47 established by the 2006 team.
