EUGENE, Ore – Junior Stephanie Garcia and freshman Maureen Laffan concluded the second day of the 2009 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Hayward Field in the steeplechase and the shot put.

Garcia concluded her season with a 19th-place finished in the first round of the senior championships of the steeplechase, finishing in 10:22.14. The All-American earned her first-ever national honor in the event this season with a ninth-place finish at NCAAs. She was also the 2008 ACC Champion in the event, is a three-time All-East Region honoree and a two-time ECAC Champion in the steeple.

Laffan, an NCAA East Region qualifier in the shot put, concluded her rookie season with a ninth-place finish in the finals of the junior shot put, throwing 46’ 6.25”.

The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow at noon, with freshman Erin Wykoff kicking off events in the finals of the discus. Freshman Morgane Gay will run the first round of the 1500m at 3:40 p.m., and junior Meghan Briggs will throw in the finals of the javelin at 7:30 p.m.
