PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago – Rising sophomore Sean Keveren finished runner-up in the 5000m at the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.

Keveren, who redshirted his first season for the Cavaliers, clocked in with a personal-best time of 14:14.46 to finish behind Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed. Ahmed took the title in 14:12.11, setting a new Pan Am Junior Championships record. Keveren and USA teammate Colby Lowe finished neck-in-neck behind Ahmed, with Keveren earning the silver medal and Lowe (14:14.57) taking the bronze.

The Brentwood, Tenn., native qualified for the biennial event by finishing runner-up to Lowe – a two-time national champion in the 5k – at the USA Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 28. Lowe claimed the title in 14:31.27, while Keveren finished second in 14:38.30.
