Geissinger Fares Well at U.S. Open

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Several Virginia swimmers competed this week at the United States Open, which wrapped up Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Sophomore Peter Geissinger had a solid performance, reaching the finals of both the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle. The Darien, Conn., native placed sixth in the 100 free with a mark of 50.23, and went on the finish eighth in the 200 free (1:51.44). He clocked a mark of 1:50.72 in the prelims.
Geissinger also won the ‘C’ final in the 100-meter butterfly to finish 17th overall with a time of 53.97. He placed 27th in the 50-meter freestyle in 23.17.
Top-20 performances from the women’s team came from incoming freshman Lauren Perdue and junior Ellie Freeman. Perdue was 12th in the 50 free (25.94) while Freeman was 15th in the 200 breast (2:36.78). Freeman went on to finish 28th in the 100 breast (1:11.37).
Sophomore Brad Pottieger placed 20th in the 200-meter butterfly (2:01.18) and 29th in the 800-meter freestyle (8:31.75). Tommy Inwood also had a pair of top-30 finishes, including the 200-meter IM (2:04.17) and the 400-meter IM (28th, 4:31.46).
