Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team opens the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the Maryland Intercollegiate Sept. 12-13 at the par-71, 6,801-yard River Marsh Golf Club in Cambridge, Md. The 15-team field includes VCU, East Carolina, Xavier, NC State, Kent State, Georgetown, Towson, Penn, Old Dominion, Akron, William and Mary, Texas State and North Carolina. The first two rounds of play will take place Saturday with the third and final round set for Sunday.

Last year Virginia finished seventh at the tournament that was shorted to 36 holes due to weather created by tropical story Hanna. Ben Kohles led UVa with a 13th-place finish. Arkansas took the team title by 20 strokes over second-place NC State.

The Virginia lineup will include senior Kyle Stough (Laurel, Md.), juniors Will Collins (Salisbury, N.C.) and Amory Davis (Chadds Ford, Pa.), sophomore Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.) and freshman Gregor Orlando (Erie, Pa.). Sophomore Bruce Woodall (Yanceyville, N.C.) will also travel and play as an individual.

Stough, Collins, Kohles and Woodall all competed for Virginia at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Collins led the team last season with a 73.14 stroke average while Kohles was second at 73.39.

Virginia will have three individuals compete at Longwood’s 54-hole Manor Intercollegiate Sept. 14-15 at The Manor Resort Golf Club. Senior Steven Rojas (Aadorf, Switzerland), freshman Mac McLaughlin (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Cory Siegfried (Phoenixville, Pa.) will represent the Cavaliers at the event.

The two-day tournament features a field of 12 schools, including the defending champion and host Lancers, along with 2007 champion Gardner-Webb, George Mason, Hampton, High Point, 2009 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola (Md.), Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina Central, Winston-Salem State, Virginia State, Hampden-Sydney, and Virginia Wesleyan along with individuals from Longwood, Virginia, and Liberty.
