CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s soccer team hosts Mount St. Mary’s Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. The 16th-ranked Cavaliers are coming off of a hard-fought double-overtime loss to No. 19 Duke Friday (Sept. 11) night, and seeking their first home win of the 2009 season. Virginia (2-1, 0-1 ACC) is led by Hermann Trophy candidate Tony Tchani, who has tallied two goals so far this year. He was named to the Soccer America Men’s Team of the Week on Sept. 7 following two season-opening wins for the Cavaliers at the Portland Nike Invitational (Sept. 4 and 6).

Also scoring goals for Virginia on its season-opening west coast swing were Neil Barlow (Herndon, Va.), Greg Monaco (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Will Bates (Chester, Va.).

The Cavaliers are ranked No. 25 by Soccer America and No. 16 by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA).

Virginia leads the all-time series with Mount St. Mary’s, 6-0. The teams last met in 2007, a 3-0 UVa win in Charlottesville.

The Mount (1-3) was most recently edged by UMBC, 2-1, on Sept. 12 in Baltimore, Md. Chris Wheeler and Ian Hendrie lead the team with two goals apiece.

Mount St. Mary’s is coached by Rob Ryerson, who is in his 10th season at the helm.

Following Tuesday’s non-conference match, Virginia hits the road for an Atlantic Coast Conference contest at Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 18. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
