Cross Country Set to Race at George Mason Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Following a two-week break since the season opening Lou Onesty Invitational, the Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Centreville, Va., to compete in the George Mason Invitational at Bull Run Regional Park. The men will toe the line at 10 a.m., followed by the women at 10:45 a.m.

Both squads won their respective Lou Onesty Invitational titles on Saturday, Sept. 9. Senior Lauretta Dezubay won her second-consecutive title to lead the 19th-ranked women’s team to its second-straight Lou Onesty title, while junior All-American Emil Heineking claimed the men’s title by almost a whole minute, leading the 14th-ranked men’s team to first place.

Heineking finished the course in 24:04.8 to break the meet record of 24:14.5, which Josh McDougal (Liberty) set in 2006, and earned ACC Performer of the Week honors for his accomplishments. Heineking became the third-straight Cavalier to win the Lou Onesty individual title.

The Cavaliers dominated the Mason Invitational a year ago, with senior Lauretta Dezubay and junior Emil Heineking winning individual titles and guiding their respective teams to the team championship.

Following this weekend, the Cavaliers will return home to host the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16.
