Tampa, FL – The 28th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team put together another outstanding performance this fall, placing third in the 15-team Gary Koch Intercollegiate played in Tampa at the Old Memorial Golf Club. The Cavaliers tied 11th-ranked Florida for third place at 12-under 852. Virginia shot 3-over 291 during Sunday’s final round. The tournament featured seven teams ranked in top-30 of the current Golfstat poll.

Ben Kohles led UVa during the final round with a 1-under 71 to move up to sixth overall on the leaderboard at 7-under 209. Kohles’ finish was his third top-10 this season. He has managed to shoot under par in six of his nine rounds this fall.

Kyle Stough posted a 72 during the final round and was Virginia’s number-two finisher in 17th place at 3-under 213. Amory Davis and Will Collins tied for 32nd at 1-over 217. Davis shot 75 Sunday and Collins finished with a 76. Bruce Woodall was 51st overall at 5-over 221. He carded a 73 during the final round.

Florida State won the tournament by 16 shots at 30-under 834. The sixth-ranked Seminoles broke their own 54-hole scoring record by six strokes during the event. Auburn’s Kyle Kopsick broke the tournament’s scoring record by four shots, taking medalist honors at 15-under 201.

Virginia will have three individuals compete Monday and Tuesday at Liberty’s Frank Landrey Invitational played at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville. That trio includes Henry Smart, Cole Willcox and Steven Rojas.

Virginia’s next tournament is Oct. 16-18 at The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn.
