CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team has announced the rosters for its annual fall intrasquad series, the Orange and Blue World Series. The Orange team will be coached by Karl Kuhn while the Blue squad will be coached by Eddie Smith.

The seven-game series kicks off at 6 p.m. Monday (Oct. 5) at Davenport Field. Admission to all seven games is free of charge and parking will be available in the University Hall lots.

The series will consist of two three-game series and a Game 7. Game 1-3 and 4-6 are separate series. If a given team wins the first two games of a series, the third game of that series will be played based on run differential of the first two games to allow the trailing team to still win the series.

Each team is encouraged to score as many runs as possible and not worry about running the score up. In Games 1-3 pitchers will have limits of five innings or 75 pitches, and in Games 4-6 no pitcher may pitch more than five innings or 90 pitches. In Game 7 all pitchers are eligible to pitch but are limited to five innings or 90 pitches.

All pitchers are required to appear in each three-game series, and 10-man lineups will be used.

Virginia will hold a celebration of the 2009 UVa baseball team at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Davenport Field prior to the start of Game 6 of the Orange and Blue World Series. Virginia will conduct its College World Series and ACC Championship ring ceremony at that time. There will be a video presentation featuring highlights of the 2009 team’s historic season as part of the presentation.

UVa will hold Youth Baseball Day on Oct. 16 during Game 6 of its Orange and Blue World Series at Davenport Field. All Little League programs are welcome to attend.

Prior to the 6 p.m. game, all little leaguers will be welcome to come onto the field and play catch in the outfield and meet the Virginia players. Three little leaguers will be chosen to throw out the first pitch, while one will be selected to introduce the lineups for the first inning. Players are encouraged to wear their baseball uniforms.

Authentic Virginia old-timers hats will be available to the first 100 fans entering the ballpark for Game 6.
