Track and Field Releases 2010 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Director of Track and Field Jason Vigilante announced today the 2010 indoor and outdoor track and field schedule for the Cavaliers’ men’s and women’s teams. Highlighted by two home events, the schedule consists of 22 meets from December through June, including seven championship events.
The Cavaliers will open the 2010 indoor season with three-straight in-state meets, beginning in Lynchburg, Va., on Dec. 3 at the Liberty Invitational. Virginia will then reconvene and spend consecutive weekends in Blacksburg, Va., for back-to-back two-day events at Virginia Tech to open the New Year.
Virginia will then head north for three-straight meets in New York City in preparation for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Feb. 25-27. The Cavaliers will begin with the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 29 and then head over to the Armory Track and Field Center for the NYC Mayor’s Cup Championship on Jan. 30. Virginia will return to the Big Apple on Feb. 13 for the Virginia Duals at the Armory.
The three-day ACC Indoor Championships will again take place at Virginia Tech, with the Cavaliers following that up with last chance meets in South Bend, Ind., or Blacksburg, Va., on March 5-6. The NCAA Indoor Championships are set for Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13.
The teams will swing into the outdoor season on March 19-20, hosting the second annual UVa Spring Swashbuckle. The Raleigh Relays are scheduled for March 26-27 in Raleigh, N.C., and the Colonial Relays will follow that on April 2-3 in Williamsburg, Va.
Virginia’s final home meet, the Lou Onesty Invitational, will occur on April 9-10, before the squads head to Clemson, S.C., for the three-day ACC Outdoor Championships, April 15-17.
Following the conference championships, Virginia will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays, in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 22-24. A small contingent of runners will then head west to Stanford on May 1, while the squads continue to prepare for events at North Carolina on May 14 and the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., from May 14-16.
The NCAA East Regional will take place on May 28-29 in Greensboro, N.C., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships are set for Eugene, Ore., running from June 9-12.
The 2010 USATF Junior and Senior National Championships will be held in Des Moines, Iowa on June 23-27.
