LOS ANGELES – The Virginia women’s tennis team had two players compete in the qualifying singles draw of the ITA All-America Championships Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club. Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) both fell short in their quest to make the main draw.
Stevens opened play strong, upsetting No. 32 ranked Taylor Ormond of Baylor 6-3, 6-4. However, later in the day she fell in the second round to Aeriel Ellis of Texas 6-3, 6-1. Fraser suffered a first round loss to Amanda Granson of Duke, 6-3, 6-2. Later in the day, she topped No. 42 ranked Megan Fudge of Illinois 6-7, 7-5, 6-3. She plays Kayla Duncan of TCU in the second round of consolation on Wednesday.
Stevens and Fraser are competing in the main draw of doubles, which begins Thursday. The duo received direct entry into the main draw due to their preseason ranking.
