CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia rowing team and head coach Kevin Sauer announced the 2009-10 schedule on Monday (Oct. 19). The Cavaliers will host four regattas on their home courses and row head-to-head against at least six participants from last year’s NCAA Championships.

The Cavaliers will compete in three fall events, including the 2009 Rivanna Romp on Nov. 15 at the Rivanna Reservoir.

Virginia, which last year captured the overall team title at the South/Central Regional Championships and finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, begins the 2010 campaign against 2009 NCAA participant Michigan State on March 13 in Marion, Va.

After a March 21 regatta vs. Bucknell on the Rivanna Reservoir, UVa heads to San Diego, Calif., for the San Diego Crew Classic on March 27 and 28.

The next weekend on Lake Monticello, the Cavaliers host 2009 NCAA participants Ohio State and Michigan beginning at 9 a.m.

On April 17, Virginia rows against Princeton and Yale in Princeton, N.J., the weekend before the ACC Championship.

That championship regatta, being held in Clemson, S.C., takes place on April 24 beginning at 9 a.m.

A final regular-season race against Pennsylvania will be held May 1 on the Rivanna Reservoir, before the Cavaliers head to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for South/Central Regionals (May 15 and 16).

The 2010 NCAA Championship will be May 28-30 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. The inaugural NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship was held there in 1997, and it served as the site for the championship in 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2008.
