GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia senior Monica Wright was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year at the ACC’s annual media day held at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Cavaliers were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll.

Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) adds ACC Preseason Player of the Year to her list of preseason accolades, which already includes first team All-America honors from Lindy’s and The Sporting News.

Wright, also a preseason candidate for both the Wooden Award and State Farm Wade Trophy, returns for her senior campaign after leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring last season (20.5 points per game). A first team All-ACC selection, Wright set the UVa single-season scoring record with 696 points en route to an honorable mention Associated Press All-America nod.

Wright is on pace to become UVa’s all-time scoring leader and needs 330 points to surpass Dawn Staley’s school record of 2,135 points.

The Cavaliers return six letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished with a 24-10 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The season tips off on Nov. 13 at UMBC, before the home opener at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Nov. 15 vs. Manhattan at 2 p.m.
