GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Simone Asque has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Asque led the Cavaliers to a 2-0 week, as Virginia swept Maryland and escaped with a five-set victory over Boston College on the road. The outside hitter tied a career-high on Friday against the Terrapins, landing 21 of the team’s 43 kills. Asque followed that up with a career-high 27 kills against the Eagles on Saturday.

The Chicago, Ill., native also collected a season-best 16 digs against Boston College to register her fourth double-double this season and eighth of her career. For the weekend, she averaged 6.00 kills per set by tallying 48 kills against 14 errors in 124 attempts for a .274 hitting percentage. She also added 23 digs, two service aces and a block.

The weekly honor is the first for the Cavaliers this season and marks the first of Asque’s career.

Virginia will return to action this weekend, playing host to No. 17 Florida State at 7 p.m. Friday evening and Miami on Sunday at noon.
