CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia rowing head coach Kevin Sauer has announced that seniors Jennifer Cromwell (Bellevue, Wash.) and Lauren Hutchins (North Vancouver, Canada) have been named captains for the 2010 season.

Cromwell, a member of the 2009 Varsity Eight that finished as the national runner-up at the NCAA Championships, was a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) first team All-American and first team all-south region member in 2008 and 2009. She has stroked the Varsity Eight to the South/Central Regional Championships in each of her three years and was the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.

Hutchins, meanwhile, will serve her second term as a team captain in 2009 after helping last year’s Varsity Eight to its silver medal at NCAAs. She was named a second team CRCA All-American in 2008 as well as a first team all-south region member. She was an All-ACC selection in 2008 and has won three South/Central Championships as a member of the Varsity Eight in each of her three years in the program.

Virginia concludes its fall season on Sunday, Nov. 15, with the Rivanna Romp on the Rivanna Reservoir. The spring season begins on March 13 against Michigan State in Marion, Va.
