GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Simone Asque has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Asque, the league’s Player of the Week last week, earned the honor for a second-straight time after knocking down 39 kills and collecting 15 digs in a 1-1 weekend for the Cavaliers. The outside hitter landed a match-high 10 kills in a 3-0 loss to No. 17 Florida State on Friday and followed that up with a career-high 29 kills on Sunday – while committing just four errors in 82 attempts for a .305 attack percentage – to lead the squad to an exciting five-set victory over Miami in Memorial Gymnasium.

For the weekend, the Chicago, Ill., native averaged 4.88 kills per set by tallying 39 kills and 13 errors in 123 attempts for a .211 attack percentage. She contributed 15 digs, five blocks and two service aces.

Asque was also named the ACC Player of the Week last Tuesday after leading Virginia to a sweep of Maryland by knocking down a then-career-high 21 of the team’s 43 kills. She followed that up with 27 kills in a 3-2 win at Boston College.

In the past four matches, Asque has reached 20-kills three times, totaling 87 kills compared to 27 errors in 247 attempts. She hit .243 and averaged 5.44 kills per set in those matches. She is currently ranked second in the conference in kills, averaging 3.72.

Virginia will head on the road this weekend to face North Carolina and NC State. The Cavaliers will visit the Tar Heels on Friday at 5 p.m., before heading down the road to face the Wolfpack on Sunday at 1 p.m.
