CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Former Virginia Lacrosse All-American Kyle Dixon, a current member of Major League Lacrosse’s (MLL) Washington Bayhawks franchise, has been named to the 2010 US Men’s National Team, as announced by US Lacrosse.

The training team roster of 41 was narrowed down to the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL)-mandated size of 23 players after three fall exhibition weekends in West Point, N.Y., Annapolis, Md., and Stony Brook, N.Y. All 23 players, selected by the coaching staff, will compete in the FIL World Championships in Manchester, England from July 14-24, 2010.

A late addition to the training roster, Dixon joined former UVa teammate Matt Poskay as the only former or current Cavaliers vying for one of the coveted 23 roster spots.

Virginia’s current squad concluded its fall schedule at the same exhibition weekend as Team USA in Annapolis, Md., at the Naval Academy. Team USA split its 41 players into two squads for the weekend. Dixon was on the squad that scrimmaged the Cavaliers.

Dixon was four-year letterwinner at UVa, playing in 60 career games and winning NCAA titles in 2003 and 2006. Over his Virginia career Dixon tallied 55 goals and 57 assists, winning first team All-American honors on defense as a senior and second team All-American accolades at midfield as a junior.

MLL’s Baltimore Bayhawks selected Dixon second overall in the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft. After spending his rookie season with the Bayhawks in 2006, Dixon made the move with the franchise to Washington D.C., for the start of the 2007 season. In 36 career professional games, Dixon has amassed 64 goals, 14 two-point goals and 39 assists for 117 points.

The team’s first appearance together will be at the 2010 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore, Md., Jan. 15-17, followed by their first on-field competition together at the 2010 Champion Challenge at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., against Duke and Army, Jan. 30-31, respectively.

Dixon adds his name to a long list of former UVa lacrosse alumni who have donned the red, white and blue for US Lacrosse in the FIL World Championships. Dixon will be the 21st UVa lacrosse alumni since the FIL World Championship started in 1967 to grace Team USA’s roster. In 10 all-time FIL World Championships, Team USA has won eight championships and finished runner-up in 1978 and 2006.
