Junior Anne Summer Myers and the Cavalier swimming and diving teams return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday against Kentucky at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Myers, a Richmond, Va., native, recently caught up with VirginiaSports.com to discuss the early season goals, her love-hate relationship with the mile and her career aspirations.

Question: The team is back in action on Saturday, what things are do you look to accomplish early in the season?
Myers:
Basically, we are really keeping our training up, so I think we will be broken down more than usual. We just want to race as fast as we can and get our hands on the wall first. We want to continue to better our times as the meets progress on throughout the year.

Question: How do you think the season has gone so far?
Myers:
We opened up awesome against Florida. From the very first relay to the end everybody fought so hard. I think they we really surprised by how fast we were.

Question: What is your favorite event to swim?
Myers:
I feel like I swim all over the place but I kind of have a love-hate relationship with the mile. It’s so hard but I really like racing all the way through until the end.

Question: You had a big race last year at ACCs in the 1650 free, finishing 10th overall. What did that mean to you?
Myers:
It was amazing. It always means a lot to me when I swim the final heat before finals start at night. All the parents come out, all the fans are cheering, the whole team comes early to watch the people in those heats. Last year I felt like I kind of got things started going into the finals and getting everybody excited meant a lot.

Question: How did you get started swimming?
Myers:
I actually did summer league and (former Cavalier All-American) Bo Greenwood was on my team, and his older brother Jamie was my coach. After a couple of years, when I was almost 14, Jamie encouraged me to try out for the NOVA club team. From then on, I have loved it.

Question: What made you want to come to UVa?
Myers:
Growing up with Bo, I came and watched a lot of the meets. So every since I started swimming year-round, I have always had aspirations to go to Virginia. To actually be here is a dream come true.

Question: What is your major? Do you have any career aspirations?
Myers:
I am an English major. I’m getting tired of writing papers already! But I like it. I really want to be the next Erin Andrews; I just like interacting with people and I love sports. Football and especially baseball. I like speaking with people and having conversations.

Question: What has been your favorite class at UVa so far?
Myers:
Theology of ethics and medicine. We did a lot of case studies and there were really no right or wrong and answers. It was a really interesting class.

Question: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Myers:
Sleep! I love shopping and I kind of have a bad rep on the team for being a shopaholic. I like to cook and go to the movies, just hang out.

Question: What is your favorite thing to cook?
Myers:
I like baking, but I make this cheese casserole that my mom makes sometimes for brunch. I’m not a big meal person as far as cooking goes; I’m working my way up.

Question: What did you go as for Halloween?
Myers:
I was Ricky Bobby and Katya (Bachroche) went as Cal (from Talladega Nights). We always do “shake and bake” together before races when we are in the same heat.
