CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia cross country team will host the annual Cavalier Open on Friday afternoon at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. Races are scheduled to begin with the men at 4 p.m., and the women at 4:45 p.m.

Led by junior All-American Emil Heineking’s individual conference championship, the No. 19 Cavalier men finished runner-up at the 2009 ACC Championships last weekend. Heineking has won all four individual titles this season, including setting the course record at the Panorama Farms Invitational on Oct. 16 and has earned two ACC Performer of the Week honors.

The women are ranked No. 19 nationally and finished third at ACCs behind junior Catherine White’s runner-up performance. White won the individual title at the George Mason Invitational earlier this season, while senior Lauretta Dezubay won the Lou Onesty title.

There will be no team scores compiled at this weekend’s Cavalier Open.

Following the individual races, Virginia will head to Louisville, Ky., for the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships. The women won the event last year, while the men finished runner-up, each earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships. The men will kick off this season’s championship at 10 a.m., with the women following at 11:15 a.m.
