CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving team continue the 2009-10 season with a dual meet against Kentucky Saturday at the Aquatics and Fitness and Center. Diving will begin at 10 a.m., swimming at events to start at 11 a.m.

Both the UVa. men’s and women’s squads are coming off strong wins against conference foe Virginia Tech. The Cavalier men downed the Hokies 177-123 while the women won 180-120.

The men and women teams combined to set 10 War Memorial Pool records led by double-event winners Matt McLean (200 and 500 free), Dan McMahon (100 and 200 fly) and Scot Robison (50 and 100 free), Mei Christensen (100 and 200 back; both NCAA ‘B’ standards) and three event-winner Lauren Perdue.

A freshman, Perdue came out strong taking the top spot in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. She also recorded an NCAA ‘B’ time of 1:47.89 with a win in the 200 free.

Both the Kentucky men’s and women’s teams are coming off dual meet losses at Tennessee. The Wildcats will swim in a dual meet against Virginia Tech Friday before heading to Charlottesville.

The Wildcat women are led by school record holders Casey Miller (200 IM), Chathan Penrod (100 back) and Megan Pulskamp (100 fly). Freshman Trina Winsor was the lone winner for the women in their meet against Tennessee as she placed first in the 500 free for her first-ever collegiate win.

The men’s sprinters have shone their talent in recent meets as they swept Tennessee in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events led by seniors Eric McGinnis and Alex Forbes respectively. Junior Tyler Reed also picked up a win for the men in the 200 free.

In 2008, the Virginia men’s and women’s teams swept Kentucky in Lexington.
