CHARLOTTESVILLE — The University of Virginia women’s tennis program, along with the Boar’s Head Inn Sports Club, will host a first annual USTA Campus Showdown this Saturday.

The Campus Showdown is another step in the effort of the USTA, along with collegiate tennis programs, to work together to promote both the collegiate game as well as junior competition throughout the nation. The Showdown format is designed to allow rising junior players to compete with college players on their home campus. It serves a double role in that it allows the junior players to visit different universities and meet the players that they hope to compete against and with in the future.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to host a USTA Showdown. Our draw is completely full and we will have great representation from junior players in the USTA Mid-Atlantic section and beyond, along with participation from our entire women’s team and additional collegiate players from the state. It should be a great event. Thanks goes out to Boar’s Head for assisting us with this event and making court space available. It will be a great way to show off the indoor tennis stadium we are fortunate to compete in at Boar’s Head, and a great way to conclude our fall season as a team.”

The event is open to the public and is free of charge for fans. Play will begin at 9:00 am Saturday, November 21 and should run through late afternoon.
