Albany, NY — The No. 19 Virginia wrestling team won two of three matches Saturday at the Northeast Duals held in Albany, N.Y. The Cavaliers defeated Hofstra 28-6, shut out Sacred Heart 48-0 and lost to No. 10 Central Michigan 25-12. The results bring UVa’s record to 7-1 this season.

In UVa’s opening match against Sacred Heart, the Cavaliers’ Derek Valenti (141 pounds), Kellon Balum (149 pounds) and Brent Jones (197 pounds) all won by pin fall and Chris Henrich (174 pounds) rolled to a 19-3 major decision.

Valenti, Danny Gonsor (157 pounds), Henrich and Jones all picked up victories against Central Michigan in UVa’s in the first dual-meet loss of the season.

Valenti, Henrich and Jones all picked up wins against Hofstra to go 3-0 on the day. Henrich’s win was an impressive 7-0 victory against 11th-ranked Ryan Parovich. With the three victories, Valenti improved to 7-1 overall, Henrich moved to 6-1 and Jones went to 7-1 this year.

UVa wrestlers will compete unattached in open tournaments and take their final exams the following three weeks before returning to team competition Dec. 19 at UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State.
