Virginia's Men's and Women's Recruiting Classes Ranked Top-10 Nationally

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field recruiting classes for the upcoming 2010 season have been ranked among the top-10 in the country by Track & Field News, the magazine announced in its January issue.

Virginia is the only Atlantic Coast Conference team to be ranked on the women’s side, as the Cavaliers pulled in a No. 8 national ranking, while the men’s squad is ranked No. 9 in the nation. This incoming group of current freshmen marks head coach Jason Vigilante’s inaugural recruiting class and it is the first time Virginia has had its incoming class ranked in the top-10 on both the men’s and women’s side in the same year.

Virginia is also the only ACC school to be ranked in the top-10 for both its men’s and women’s recruiting classes. The Cavalier women bring in one transfer NCAA All-American, two high school All-Americans and seven high school state champions. On the men’s side, the Cavaliers bring in one transfer NCAA All-American, three national high school champions and three state champions.

Track & Field News also tabbed Robby Andrews as a prized recruit. The national high school record holder in the indoor 800m and 1000m, Andrews won the indoor and outdoor 800m national championships as a senior.

The Cavaliers will open the 2010 indoor season on Jan. 15-16 at Virginia Tech.
