CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s basketball team returns to action Monday as it hosts the New Jersey Institute of Technology at John Paul Jones Arena.

Monday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are available. The game will be broadcast on the Virginia Sports Radio Network.

UVa enters the game with a 4-4 record and hasn’t played since a 68-67 loss at Auburn on Dec. 7. The Cavaliers took 12 days off for exams and were scheduled to return to action on Dec. 19 at home against UNC Wilmington, a game that was postponed due to hazardous travel conditions caused by a heavy snowfall in the Charlottesville area.

The Cavaliers have three players averaging in double figures in scoring. Sylven Landesberg leads the team at 16.9 ppg, while Mike Scott averages 13.1 ppg and sophomore guard Sammy Zeglinski averages 10.9 ppg.

NJIT is 3-7 this season after a 71-62 loss at Rutgers on Saturday. The Highlanders are led by Isaiah Wilkerson, who averages 13.7 points per game. Jheryl Wilson (12.4 ppg) and Chris Flores (10.7 ppg) also average in double figures for NJIT.

The game is the first ever meeting between the schools. NJIT is the first ever opponent for Virginia from the Great West Conference, as the league is in its first season.

Following Monday’s game, the Cavaliers continue their homestand on Wednesday as they host Hampton. Game time at John Paul Jones Arena is 7 p.m.
