CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s basketball team continues its homestand Wednesday as it hosts the Hampton at John Paul Jones Arena.

Wednesday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are available. The game will be broadcast on the Virginia Sports Radio Network.

UVa enters the game with a 5-4 record after a 68-37 win over NJIT on Monday night. The Cavaliers held NJIT to 27.1 percent shooting (13-48) and the Highlanders’ 37 points were the fewest allowed by Virginia in 13 years.

The Cavaliers have three players averaging double figure scoring. Sylven Landesberg leads the team at 16.1 ppg, while Mike Scott averages 13.1 ppg and Sammy Zeglinski averages 10.6 ppg.

Hampton is 2-9 this season after an 82-74 loss at Towson on Sunday. The Pirates are led by Vincent Simpson, who averages 14.7 points per game. Darrion Pellum (10.9 ppg) and Michael Freeman (10.5 ppg) also average double-digit scoring for Hampton.

The Cavaliers lead the all-time series with Hampton 5-0. Wednesday’s game marks the fourth consecutive year the teams have met at John Paul Jones Arena. Last season, the Cavaliers defeated the Pirates 74-48, also on Dec. 23.

Following Wednesday’s game, the Cavaliers will be off for a week before hosting UAB on Dec. 30. Game time at John Paul Jones Arena is 7 p.m.
