CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Brent Jones (Sr., Burke, Va.) has been named the ACC Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Jones won both of his ACC bouts last weekend, including a 4-3 upset of then-No. 12 Dennis Drury of North Carolina.

Jones, currently ranked No. 19 nationally at 197 pounds by InterMat, also scored a 13-5 major decision over Virginia Tech’s Chris Penny. With the two victories, Jones improved to 18-8 this season as he inched closer to the 100-win plateau at UVa. He now has 99 career wins as he looks to become the seventh wrestler in Virginia history to reach 100 career wins. He already holds the UVa school record in pins with 40.

This is the second ACC Wrestler of the Week honor for Jones this season. He also claimed the award on Nov. 17. It is his third career ACC Wrestler of the Week honor – he also won the distinction as a freshman in February 2006.

Jones and the 19th-ranked Cavaliers return to competition this weekend, traveling to Rutgers for a 6:30 p.m. match Friday before heading to Princeton at noon Saturday.
