CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore tennis player Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) was named the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Hardenbergh led the No. 26 Cavaliers to wins over No. 33 Illinois and Richmond on Sunday in their season-opening doubleheader.

Hardenbergh, ranked No. 72 nationally in singles, won both of her singles matches at No. 1 singles last week. Against Illinois, she defeated No. 33 Rachael White 6-4, 6-2 before topping Richmond’s Erin Clark 6-2, 6-0 later in the day. In doubles, she teamed with Erin Vierra for a pair of wins on the day.

The award is the first of Hardenbergh’s career and the first for a Cavalier since 2006.

The Cavaliers travel to Fresno, Calif., next weekend for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, which serves as a qualifying tournament for ITA National Team Indoors. Virginia opens play Saturday against Florida State.
