CHARLOTTESVILLE—The Virginia men’s basketball team plays its third game in five days on Wednesday (Feb. 17) when the Cavaliers host Florida State at 7 p.m. in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at John Paul Jones Arena. Tickets are available for Wednesday night’s game.

The game will be televised by ESPNU and broadcast by the Virginia Sports Radio Network.

Virginia has lost its last three games including an 85-66 loss at Maryland on Monday night (Feb. 15). The Cavaliers are now 14-9 overall and 5-5 in the ACC.

Three players scored in double figures for UVa in its loss at Maryland. Junior guard Jeff Jones and junior forward Mike Scott each scored 16 points, and sophomore guard Sylven Landesberg scored 12 points against the Terrapins. Scott led the Cavaliers with six rebounds.

Landesberg and Scott are the only Virginia players averaging in double figures in scoring for the season.

Landesberg leads the team with an average of 17.8 points a game. He also leads the team in assists (65, 2.8 apg.), minutes played (31.9 mpg.) and free throw percentage (.822, 106-129). Landesberg is averaging 5.2 rebounds a game.

Scott leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.7 rebounds a game and is second in scoring at 13.6 points a game. He is also shooting 53.5 percent (114-213) from the field.

Sophomore guard Sammy Zeglinski is averaging 9.3 points a game. He leads the team in steals (29, 1.3 spg.) and in three-point field goals (48).

Virginia is scoring an average of 68.8 points a game and allowing an average of 62.1 points a game.

Florida State enters Wednesday’s game with an overall record of 18-7 and a 6-5 record in the ACC. The Seminoles are coming off a 62-47 victory over Boston College at home on Sunday (Feb. 14).

Sophomore center Solomon Alabi leads Florida State in scoring and blocked shots. Alabi is averaging 12.5 points and 2.5 blocked shots a game. He is also averaging 6.8 rebounds a game and is shooting 55.9 percent (113-202) from the field.

Sophomore forward Chris Singleton is averaging 10.7 points a game and leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.4 a game.

Junior guard Derwin Kitchen leads the team in assists (96, 4.0 apg.) and is averaging 8.7 points a game. Freshman guard Michael Snaer is averaging 9.0 points a game.

The Seminoles are averaging 70.5 points a game and allowing an average of 61.2 points a game.

Leonard Hamilton is in his eighth season as the head coach at Florida State. His Florida State teams have compiled an overall record of 149-103. The Seminoles have participated in one NCAA Tournament and in the NIT four times under Hamilton’s direction.

The Florida State-Virginia series is tied 17-17. Virginia has won 11 of the 17 games played in Charlottesville.

After Wednesday’s game with Florida State the Cavaliers return to action on Saturday (Feb. 20) at Clemson. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be televised by regional sports networks including Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
