CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore tennis player Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Courtney helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championship over the weekend, Virginia’s third consecutive title.

In the tournament, Courtney went 4-0 in singles at the No. 4 position and 2-1 in doubles at the No. 1 position with Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.). Two of his singles wins came against top-60 ranked players (No. 60 Drake Bernstein of Georgia and No. 34 Shuhei Uzawa of Ohio State). Courtney’s win over Tennys Sandgren of Tennessee in the final clinched the 4-1 victory for the Cavaliers. It was the second consecutive year Courtney won the championship clinching match.

The award is the second of Courtney’s career, as he was honored once last season. It is the second award for a Cavalier this season as Shabaz was honored on Jan. 26.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday when they host a doubleheader at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Virginia hosts LSU at 1 p.m. and Boston College at 6 p.m.
